Summers in the Carolinas are some of the best around. Plenty of sunshine, weekend trips to the lake or beach, backyard barbecues with neighbors, friends, and family — it’s the favorite season for many people. Carolinians play hard in the summer, and we need a home that can keep up. Whether it’s a porch for evening sitting, flooring that can handle anything, or windows we can throw open wide, our homes play a major part in how much we enjoy this beautiful season.

Let’s take a look at some of the most popular new home design trends we’re seeing that help homeowners in North and South Carolina take full advantage of summertime!

THE Covered Front Porch

Critical to the Carolina lifestyle, the covered front porch is where you cool off in the dog days of summer, watch the afternoon thunderstorms pass by, or just sit out in the evenings and chit chat with neighbors. At ValueBuild Homes, we offer two types of covered porches to accommodate all porch sitting habits. Homes with Elevation A have the perfect sized stoop — perfect for a comfortable wicker chair or rocker and a potted palmetto. Homes with Elevations B, C, and D have larger covered front porches with room for the entire family to sit out and enjoy the evening breeze.

LVP Flooring

Luxury Vinyl Plank flooring has the look of wood floors with the features and benefits of vinyl — but this isn’t your grandmother’s vinyl floor. Innovations in technology have made this flooring water resistant, durable, and beautiful, and it has become the most popular flooring choice for ValueBuild customers. Low maintenance and easy to clean, muddy footprints from garden boots and spills from toddler cups wipe right off! It’s also tough enough to handle all the traffic from summer cookouts and family get-togethers.

Energy Efficient A/C

As much as we enjoy the warm summer weather, a good A/C system is a MUST in North and South Carolina. With temperatures soaring into the 90s in July and August, a cool and comfortable, yet energy efficient, home is a necessity. That’s why we offer 14 SEER HVAC systems in all new ValueBuild homes. These systems are incredibly energy efficient, saving 20-30 percent more energy than A/C systems from just 15 years ago.

Lots of Windows

The Carolinas have some of the most beautiful scenery in the country, and when you can look out at it from any room in your home, it adds a certain serenity to life. ValueBuild customers add extra windows all the time as a customization to their new homes, most often in the great room where the family hangs out, and in the owner’s retreat where they can start their day with inspiring views. We use energy efficient, vinyl tilt-in windows with Low E glass, so you can open the shutters wide and enjoy the plentiful sunlight and not run your energy bill up.
