If you’re like most of our homeowners, you’ve been thinking about your new home for a while, which is why the Home Design part of the build process is so exciting. It’s the stage when you get to bring all of those ideas to life. Choosing the finishes, like flooring, lighting, cabinets, exterior colors, etc., is what makes your home uniquely yours, and it’s a whole lot of fun.
The Design step of the Value Build process is Step 3 in our 6-Step Process. It comes right after Identifying and Evaluating Your Land and just before Finalizing all the details. You will have already established your buying power, and what your budget is.
What to Expect
You’ll work with a dedicated New Home Designer who will guide you through the selections you’ll need to make for your new Value Build home. They are experts at designing a home to ensure it perfectly fits your family’s needs. Whether you have lots of ideas and questions for your New Home Designer, or you’re not sure where to begin, their job is to listen, ask questions and identify the right solutions for you and your home. They will ask you guiding questions to find out how you live, and how your home can best serve your lifestyle.
For example, you may have always wanted a big covered porch to hang out, sip sweet tea and watch the world go by. Or maybe you’ve been dreaming of an oversized garage with room for all your tools. When you discuss your wants and needs with your New Home Designer, they can help you figure out how you can get what you want within your budget.
Here are some common Wish List items to consider before your Design Meeting:
- Storage/large pantry
- Extra outlets in the garage
- Oversized garage space
- Owner suite separate from other bedrooms
- Granite countertops
Selecting Your Finishes
Once the Design Meeting has been completed, you can have your Selections Meeting. You will select which exterior style you want, and that alone can dramatically change the look of your home. Everything from garage location to exterior color can make a dramatic difference in how your home looks. Once you are looking at interior finishes, you will walk through each room that has a selection. The hub of the home–the kitchen–is probably the most popular room to make design decisions for. Your New Home Designer will help you decide which of our many kitchen finishes will work well for your home. From cabinets to countertops, we have a wide range of included and custom features available to choose from. Do you want a contrasting color kitchen island? Light or dark granite for the countertops? Maybe black finishes for the faucet and drawer pulls. Whatever you choose, you’ll love seeing how it all comes together.
